The Marist volleyball team dropped a MAAC contest at Fairfield, 3-1 this evening. Three different Marist players had double-digit kills and four had double-digit digs. Junior outside hitter Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) and senior Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, Calif.) each recorded double-doubles for the Red and White.
After falling 30-24 in game one, the Red Foxes rebounded to win game two 31-29, but the Stags were solid in the end, winning games three (30-26) and four (30-22).
Kenworthy's 12 kills led the offense, while her 19 digs were also a team-high. Christy Kukes (Mesa, Ariz.) led the blocking troops with three while also tallying 10 kills. Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.), who came into the match ranked third in the NCAA in hitting percentage, hit a team-high .318 good for seven kills.
Cochrane recorded 34 assists along with 14 kills for her double-double while classmate Katie Lux (Wantagh, N.Y.) picked up 12 digs. Junior Kim McEathron (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) put forth a balanced effort with 10 kills and seven digs.
The Stags utilized a four-pronged attack, boosted by 21 kills from sophomore Lindsey Lee. Jazmin Pa'akaula had a double-double on 12 kills and 18 digs, as did Ashley Hanohano, 38 assists, 11 digs.
Marist dropped to 5-12 overall, 0-2 MAAC with the loss, while Fairfield improved to 10-11, 1-0 MAAC.
The Red Foxes will be back in action again on Saturday when they travel to Iona for a 1:00 p.m. start.
