Oct. 23, 2005

Final Stats

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y.- Junior Anthony Graci (Kings Park, N.Y.) continued his hot play on offense with a remarkable four goal performance against Niagara on Sunday afternoon. He opened the scoring just 53 seconds into the match when he took a rebound off the post and scored for a 1-0 lead. He would reel off four straight before Peter Rea (Bohemia, N.Y.) closed out the scoring for the Red Foxes in the 70th minute. The 5-2 win improves Marist's record to 6-7-1 overall and 4-2 in the MAAC.

The first goal was just the opening act for Graci, however, as he tallied his second goal of the game in just the 12th minute. Keith Detelj (Sayville, N.Y.) dribbled in and fed Graci with a pass and he was able to beat Purple Eagle goalkeeper James McKenna to the right. Just over ten minutes later, Graci tallied his third marker of the game when he was able to bang a ball off the right goal post and past McKenna for a commanding 3-0 lead in the first 21 minutes of the match. Graci closed out his impressive day when he buried a rebound of a Chris Nacca (Rochester, N.Y.) shot into the back of the net. Graci doubled his season total for goals in the first half on Sunday; he now leads the team in goals with eight on the year.

In the 70th minute Rea took a pass from Nacca and went in all alone on a breakaway. He beat McKenna and the goal gave Marist a 5-0 lead over Niagara. Nacca has been a spark as well lately for the Red Foxes, as he has scored a goal and had five assists in the past three games. Detelj added two assists on the day and Tomislav Rogic and Bobby Van Dyke also added helpers for Marist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Owens (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) won his third consecutive start for Marist and moved his record to 4-0-1 on the season. Owens, who shutout Rider and Canisius in his previous two starts gave up two late goals to Eric Brodfuehrer and Rafael Venturini on Sunday. Owens made eight saves on the afternoon in the win.

With the victory Marist moved into third place in the conference, with just three league games left on the schedule. Marist will return home for an important MAAC game against Siena next Saturday. Kick-off for the match against the Saints is set for 7 p.m. on October 29.
