Marist's Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) snapped the program's single-match record with 28 kills to lead her team to a 3-2 win over Canisius. The victory improved the Red Foxes' record to 6-16 overall, 1-3 MAAC. Kenworthy was previously tied for the single-match record with 25.
Marist got to work quickly in game one, downing Canisius, 30-21 and holding the Griffins to .000 hitting. The Golden Griffins fought back to take a sound 30-22 decision in game two, hitting an improved .217, while the Red Foxes hit .135.
The Foxes rebounded on .324 hitting as a team with 18 kills to win game three, 30-27. The seesaw continued as Canisius took game four, 30-23, holding the Red Foxes to a match-low .105 hitting percentage. After Marist led 5-0 early in game five, Canisius stormed back to tie it up, but the home team prevailed, 15-13 in an exciting ending.
Kenworthy was one of four Red Foxes with double-digit kills. Kim McEathron (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) was just shy of a double-double, posting 15 kills and nine digs. Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz.) put herself at fourth on the single-match record list with nine total blocks (five solo) to go along with 10 kills. Junior Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.) continued her solid offense with 11 kills on a team-leading .407 hitting.
Senior Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, Calif.) tallied another double-double on a team-high 17 digs and 53 assists. Classmate Katie Lux (Wantagh, N.Y.) also recorded 17 digs.
Mary Boller led Canisius with 19 kills while Morgan Ammons and Aislinn Hayes each recorded double-doubles. Jess Stackhouse picked up a match-high 29 digs.
The Red Foxes will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 30 when they host Niagara at 1:00 p.m.
