The Marist volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of visiting Niagara this afternoon. Three players with double-digit kills led the Purple Eagles to victory, hitting .359 as a team.
Marist led game one by as much as 14-9, but Niagara stormed back to take a 23-20 lead late in the game. A late run gave the Purple Eagles a 30-23 victory and the momentum that they would not lose for the remainder of the match. Niagara was strong in games two and three, winning each 30-21.
Junior Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.) led the Red Foxes with 11 kills and three blocks. Classmate Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) also had eight kills while sophomore Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz.) tallied eight kills and three blocks.
Erin Graham registered a double-double for Niagara with 11 kills and 10 digs. Stephanie Hopkins and Michelle LeSouder hammered out 16 and 13 kills, respectively.
The Red Foxes fell to 6-17 (1-4 MAAC) while the Purple Eagles improved to 13-8 (3-3 MAAC).
Marist is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Hartford for a 7:00 p.m. start.
