LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.-Siena's Nadiege Honore tallied 34 kills and 17 digs with a hitting percentage of .439 to lead the Siena volleyball squad to a 3-2 win over Marist in Loudonville Wednesday evening. Scores for the match were 30-25, 23-30, 29-31, 31-29, 15-9. The match, which was the MAAC opener for both squads, improved the Saints to 11-8 overall, while the Red Foxes dropped to 5-11.
Christie Gustafson also posted 19 kills for Siena, while Marist was led by junior Sally Hanson's (Guerneville, Ca.) 18 kills and .515 hitting percentage. Hanson entered the match ranked fourth in the nation in hitting percentage at .460. Junior Jamie Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) and sophomore Christy Lukes (Mesa, Az.) also tallied 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Kenworthy posted a double-double on the evening with 12 digs as well.
Siena's April London led the Saints in assists with 60, while Marist was led by senior Meghan Cochrane's (Placentia, Ca.) 46.
Marist senior libero Katie Lux (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes with 13 digs, while junior Kim McEathron (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and junior Dominique O'Sullivan (Anaheim, Ca.) had 12 apiece. Siena's Kathi Kobayashi had 20 digs for the Saints, while Gustafson tallied 15 digs.
Hanson added five service aces to her performance as well.
After a strong first game by the Saints (.415 team hitting percentage), the Red Foxes clawed back into the match by hitting .219 and .250 in games two and three, respectively. However, the Saints held on in game four with a by hitting .222 and closed out the match by holding the Red Foxes to a .000 hitting percentage in the fifth and deciding game.
Marist will hit the road for its next match on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Fairfield for a 7 p.m. match.
