Final Stats
Poughkeepsie, N.Y. -
Marist senior defender Amanda Kulik (Kinnelon, N.J.) scored her second late game-winner of the season with just two minutes remaining to push the Red Foxes past Canisius, 2-1. Sophomore Keri Koegel (Merrick, N.Y.) crossed the ball into the box off a free kick and Kulik knocked in the goal after a header by classmate Ashley Johnson (Avalon, N.J.).
In the pouring rain, the Red Foxes controlled the tempo for much of the first half, despite the Griffins outshooting them 7-4. Marist freshman Mallory Inglese (Levittown, N.Y.) wasted little time in the second half, scoring her first career goal at 47:40. Inglese made a big defensive stop just after her goal to keep the Red Foxes up 1-0. The game was back and forth for much of the half with the teams trading shots as rain continued fall.
Canisius' Stephanie Karst put the Griffs on the board at 72:38 off a header from Karli Sullivan. Marist's forwards turned up the offensive pressure in the last two minutes of the game, but Canisius' defenders managed to keep the Foxes' shots off balance on the slippery field.
Kulik, who scored a game-winner with six minutes left against St. Peter's earlier this year, tallied her third goal of the season in timely fashion to give her squad the win.
Sophomore goalkeeper Liz Herber (Scottsdale, Ariz.) made 11 saves in her first start of the season for the victory. Canisius' Jenna Gage tallied six. The Griffins outshot the Red Foxes 16-11, while both teams combined for 33 fouls in a physical contest.
With the win, Marist improves to 4-8-1 (3-2 MAAC) while Canisius falls to 3-8 (1-3 MAAC). The Red Foxes will host Niagara on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for their final home game of the season. Prior to the game, Marist will honor the five members of its senior class.
