The Marist volleyball team put forth an impressive effort to defeat Hartford, 3-0 this evening. Coach Sarah Hutton's squad saw 10 different players record kills, with juniors Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.) and Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) combining for 23. Marist won 30-25, 30-25, 30-27.
Freshman Lindsey O'Dell (Kingwood, Texas) led the Red Foxes on a 7-0 run during her service to break a stalemate in game one. She helped boost Marist to its eventual 30-25 victory in that game.
Marist rode its momentum into game two leading by as many as 10 points late in the game. With the Red Foxes ahead 27-17, the Hawks rallied to be down just 28-25. Marist recorded two-straight kills to pull out the win.
The Red Foxes hit an impressive .459 in game three en route to a 30-27 win and the match.
Hanson led the Red Foxes with 12 kills and six blocks, while Kenworthy tallied 11. Classmate Jackie Poston (Huntingtown, Md.) had six blocks of her own along with four kills to help pace the Red and White. Katie Lux (Wantagh, N.Y.) picked up a match-high 20 digs while O'Dell got the job done all over the court with 22 assists, five kills, five digs and two blocks.
Despite double-doubles from Jennifer Monroy (17 kills, 10 digs) and Mary Frances Feldman (14 kills, 10 digs), the Hawks could not win a game.
Marist improves to 7-17 (1-4 MAAC) while Hartford falls to 8-19 on the season.
The Red Foxes closed out their non-conference schedule with a victory and will head to Loyola and Rider this weekend for a pair of critical MAAC matches.
