Marist in Second Place After Day 1 At MAAC Championships

Baltimore, Md. - The Marist men's swimming and diving team is in second place after the first day of competition at the MAAC Championships at Loyola. The team has 200 points, trailing only defending champions Rider (222 points).

The 200 freestyle relay squad of sophomore Patrick Collins, freshman Greg Jablonski and senior co-captains Matthew Castillo and Jeffrey Paul placed second in 1:24.13. The 400 medley relay squad placed second in 3:23.78, just .21 seconds behind an entry from Rider. The Marist team was made up of sophomore Daniel Garaffa, Castillo, junior Kevin Connors and Paul.

Castillo also picked up a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley, finishing in 1:51.97. The winner, Loyola's Marko Turcinov, set the MAAC record in 1:50.78. Paul earned a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle in a time of 21.28 seconds.

The championships resume Friday at 10 a.m.
