CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The University of Virginia baseball team put the finishing touches on a three-game series sweep over the Marist Red Foxes with a 6-0 shutout victory at Davenport Field at the UVa Baseball Stadium. Virginia starting pitcher Jeff Kamrath picked up his third win of the season after going 8.0 scoreless innings and paced the Cavaliers to their fifth consecutive win and to their seventh shutout victory of the season.

After playing four and a half scoreless innings of baseball, Virginia posted the first run of the game and took a 1-0 lead when Sean Doolittle led off the side with a single before scoring a run three batters later on a RBI ground out by Mike Campagna. Doolittle's run eventually proved to be the game-winner.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cavaliers scored three more runs and extended their lead to 4-0. After back-to-back singles by Matt Street and Ryan Zimmerman to lead off the side, the duo executed a double-steal to put runners at second and third base with no outs. One batters later, Street scored on a RBI ground out by Guyer to make it 2-0 before Scott Headd drove in Zimmerman with an RBI-double down the left field line to push the lead to 3-0. Headd scored a run himself one batter later on a RBI-single up the middle by Ryan Hudson to stretch UVa's lead to 4-0.

The Cavaliers expanded their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning by tacking on a pair of runs. Werman singled and scored on an RBI-single by Guyer four batter later before Street was hit by a pitch and later scored a run himself on an RBI sacrifice fly to right field by Doolittle.

UVa's Kamrath (3-2) picked up the win and allowed no runs on five hits and struck out a game-high five batters. Marist starting pitcher Chris Tracz (0-2) took the loss after going 6.1 innings and surrendered five runs on seven hits and struck out one batter.

With the victory, Virginia's record improves to 13-6 overall. The loss drops Marist's record to 1-8 on the season. UVa won the weekend series with the Red Foxes three games to none.

Marist will head to Seton Hall for a Tuesday game against the Pirates at 3 p.m.
