Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Marist junior Bridget Hurlman (Yonkers, N.Y./Our Lady of Victory) has been named MAAC Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Hurlman hit two two-run home runs at the Wolfpack Challenge to lead the Red Foxes to wins over Ohio and Central Connecticut.
In Marist's first game at the N.C. State Wolfpack Challenge against Ohio, Hurlman came to bat with one on, two out in the bottom of the sixth and the Red Foxes down 1-0. The designated hitter won the game with one swing of the bat, homering off Bobcats reliever Candace Warden as Marist would go on to win 2-1. It was Hurlman's first career round-tripper.
The next day against Central Connecticut, Hurlman was one of four Red Foxes to hit two-run home runs as the Red and White routed the Blue Devils 14-6. The four home runs tied the team's total from the 2004 season and the 15 runs were the most the program had scored in a single game since a 15-0 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on March 28, 2002.
For the week, Hurlman batted 6-for-14 (.429) with two home runs, five RBI, three runs scored and four walks. She was named to the Wolfpack Challenge All-Tournament Team.
The Red Foxes are back in action tomorrow with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at George Mason. Marist will also play doubleheaders Wednesday and Thursday at George Washington and Howard, respectively, before returning to campus.
