Edison, NJ -
The Marist men's and women's crew combined to produce 17 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic team members. The Red Foxes led all MAAC members in student-athletes selected, while Loyola was second with 13. This past weekend, the men's crew won its fifth consecutive MAAC Championship while the women finished a close second to Loyola.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have completed two semesters at the college, be a starter or significant reserve, and hold a grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. The New York Lottery sponsors the All-Academic team.
The following four men's rowers were selected to the team: senior captain Alexander Bea (Communications); junior Scott Semple (Political Science/Public Affairs); and sophomores Brian Dmytriw (Criminal Justice) and Rich McAvoy (Political Science).
First year Head Coach Amelia White had a conference-leading 13 student athletes selected to the All-Academic Team. They are as follows: seniors Jen Cecchi, captain (Mathematics) and Lisa Moynihan (Psychology/Special Education); juniors Laura Coppola (Communications), Catherine Danaher (Fashion Merchandising), Amanda Johncock (Communications), Rebecca Lecius (Criminal Justice) and Caitlin Melnick (Communications/Public Relations); and sophomores Sheila Finnergan (Psychology/Special Education), Anna Foster (Mathematics), Margaret Hoar (Psychology/Special Education), Mary Jamison (Psychology/Special Education), Heidi Kleister (Political Science) and Mary Zandri (History).
Marist's impressive number of All-Academic selections as well as their tremendous success on the water this spring is a credit to Head Coaches Amelia White, who inspire excellence in all areas of their student-athletes' lives.
