Red Foxes Complete Series Sweep Over Canisius

BUFFALO, N.Y.-Keith Brachold went 4-for-6 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs to lead Marist College (20-16, 15-3 MAAC) to a 15-9 baseball victory over Canisius College (8-28, 4-13 MAAC) Sunday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.

Travis Musolf, Justin Lepore and Bryan Towler all collected three hits for the Red Foxes, who belted out 19 hits as a team.

Matt Mazurek went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs to lead the Golden Griffins, while Kevin Smith and Brian Hartmann each tallied two hits.

The Griffs trailed 7-1, when Gabe Baida plated Smith with a double to left centerfield in the fifth inning. Mazurek followed with a double, and Josh Matlow drove a run in with a sacrifice fly as Canisius trimmed the lead to 7-4.

Mazurek jacked the second pitch from Marist reliever Kevin Kelly over the right field wall for a three-run homer in the seventh inning to tie the game.

Brachold smacked one of his two homers in the eighth to put Marist back on top 10-7. Canisius answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame, but the Red Foxes struck for five runs in the top of the ninth to put the game away.

Musolf scored a run on a sacrifice fly, and Andy Kiriakedes drove in two more with a double to right field. Brachold followed with his second dinger to plate the other two runs.

Robert Ryan picked up the victory on the hill for Marist after throwing two innings and giving up one earned run.

Marist will head to Hofstra for a non-league game on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
