Box Score

Boston, MA - Senior Jim Madison started and tossed six shutout innings and junior Brian Nutting and senior Miguel Paquette each homered as the Northeastern baseball team survived a two-run ninth-inning Marist rally to defeat the Red Foxes, 5-4, Tuesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.

Madison (2-3) pitched well, limiting the Red Foxes (26-19) to two hits over his six innings. He walked three and struck out two and allowed only runner to advance to third base. He has now allowed just one run over his last 10 and two-thirds innings.

The Huskies (23-20) got on the board in the fifth when Nutting took Marist starter Tom Close (3-5) deep over the left center fence for his third home run of the season.

In the sixth with a man on, Paquette drove a Close pitch over the right field wall deep into the bleacher for his fourth homer of the year, giving NU a 3-0 lead.

Marist answered back in the seventh with two runs on a Pat Feeney double off of senior reliever Matt Piryk. However, junior Matt Morizio came in with runners on second and third and one out and retired the next two hitters, Travis Musolf and Andy Kiriakedes.

In the eighth, Morizio used his bat to hurt the Red Foxes, tripling down the right field line to score Paquette and sophomore Dan Milano for a 5-2 advantage.

Senior Tim Bush came in to close out the game and allowed two runs to come in on a sacrifice fly by Bryan Towler and a triple by Musolf, but he settled down and got Kiriakedes to ground out with the tying run stranded on third base. Bush nailed down his fourth save of the season.
