The Marist volleyball team dropped its season opener to Buffalo this afternoon at the McCann Center. After a close first game in which the Bulls pulled ahead 30-26, Buffalo won games two and three, 30-18 and 30-17. Junior captain Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) led the Marist offense with eight kills while classmate Kim McEathron (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) had a team-high 11 digs.
Marist came out swinging to take an early lead in game one, but the Bulls found their groove and kept pace with the Foxes. Several late-game service errors by Buffalo kept the game close but the Bulls managed to pull away for a 30-26 victory.
Buffalo rode the wave of their first-game win into the next two, winning games two and three by convincing margins. The Bulls' Nikki Morezenti was just one dig shy of a double-double, with 10 kills and nine digs to lead her squad.
Junior Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.) posted seven kills on .462 hitting while hammering out four blocks. Marist rookie setter Lindsey O'Dell (Kingwood, Texas) had 26 assists on the day while junior Stefanie Miksch (Austin, Texas) contributed a game-high three service aces.
The Red Foxes will be back in action this evening when they host St. John's at 6:00 p.m.
