The Marist volleyball team picked up a big win over Lafayette during today's Red Fox Classic contest. The Red Foxes' triple threat of Sally Hanson, Jaime Kenworthy and Christy Lukes continued its solid play, combining for 26 kills and seven blocks.
Marist came out strong in game one, taking a 30-19 victory in the strength of four kills on .375 hitting from Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.). The Leopards responded with a 9-1 run to open game two to take the early lead. Following a timeout, Marist went on a 13 point run of its own to gain the 14-9 advantage. The Red Foxes would eventually win the game 30-23, hitting an impressive .481 as a team. Marist sealed it up with a 30-26 victory that included five kills from Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.).
Lafayette struggled throughout, hitting just .110 overall. Vanessa Wilcox led her tea with nine kills while Megan Carter tallied 27 assists.
Kenworthy and Hanson finished the day with 10 kills each, while Hanson added four service aces and three blocks to her tally. Senior Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, Calif.) had 34 assists and hit .571, good for four kills.
The Red Foxes will be back in action on Friday Sept. 23 when they host the Marist Invitational, featuring Providence, Princeton and Fairleigh Dickinson.
