Marist Drops Heartbreaker To Fordham 1-0

Sept. 24, 2005

Final Stats

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.- The Marist Men's Soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision on Saturday night to Fordham and fell to 1-5 on the season. The game was scoreless until the 48:38 mark, when Ryan Brown of the Rams headed in a pass from Grant Kerr for the eventual game winner.

Marist played much of the match in the Rams end, but for the third time in five games were unable to find the back of the net. Marist best chance came in the second half when Keith Detelj (Sayville, N.Y.) got behind the Ram defense and put a hard shot on Fordham goalkeeper Justin Burse. Burse was up to the task as that was one of his three saves on the night.

Marist was able to get off nine shots in the game, but could only manage to get three of those on goal. Detelj led the way with five of the Red Foxes nine shots, recording the one shot on goal.

Although Marist carried the play much of the night the Rams took advantage of the opportunities they were given. Brown's tally was one of only two shots on goal. The ball started outside the 18-yard box on the foot of Kevin Meyer who crossed the ball to Grant Kerr. Kerr lifted the ball to the front of the net, where Brown was able to get his head on it and sneak the ball past Marist goalkeeper Michael Danyo (Cherry Hill, N.J.) for the only goal of the contest.

The loss was the Red Foxes fourth consecutive defeat, all of which have been by one goal. The Red Foxes are on the road for four straight games starting with Albany on Wednesday afternoon. Marist's opens MAAC play on October 7 when they play at Manhattan. Marist's next home game will be on October 14 against MAAC foe Loyola (Md.).
