Poughkeepsie, N.Y. -
Senior defender Amanda Kulik (Kinnelon, N.J.) scored the first goal of her collegiate career in exciting fashion to lead the Red Foxes past St. Peter's. With the win, Marist improves to 3-6-1 overall and 2-0 in the MAAC to close out a 2-0-1 week for the squad. This is Marist's best start since the 2001 season when the team won eight consecutive games en route to the MAAC Regular Season Championship.
The Red Foxes dominated the Peahens throughout the contest, taking 27 shots to St. Peter's two. Andrea Kovalcik was solid in goal for St. Peter's racking up eight saves to boost her squad's efforts.
After Marist outshot St. Peter's 10-0 in the first half, the game remained at a 0-0 standstill. It was more of the same in the second, but Marist took a whopping 17 shots, retaining the ball in the Peahens' defensive end for most of the half.
Kulik broke the tie with a beautiful shot from 20 yards out, beating Kovalcik to the upper right corner. She took the ball off a feed from Justine Caccamo (Bohemia, N.Y.) at 83:35 to put her team up for good. Three minutes later Kristina Anderson (N. Rockland, N.Y.) had a big breakaway. After her first shot was deflected by Kovalcik, Anderson followed up the rebound to give Marist the 2-0 win.
Marist rookie Anna Case (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) earned her first career complete game shutout, garnering one save.
The Red Foxes will look to extend their conference winning-streak when they travel to defending champions Loyola on Friday for a 3:00 p.m. kick-off.
