The Marist volleyball team took a 3-1 victory over Lehigh this evening on the strength of a combined 30 kills from Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) and Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.). The Red Foxes lost game one 30-25, but rebounded to take the next three games, 30-26, 20-23, 34-32.
After being down 28-26 in game four, the Red Foxes stormed back to tie the match and keep it going past the 30-point mark. Two kills from Kenworthy got Marist ahead and an emphatic solo block from sophomore Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz.) ended the match. Lukes had three solo blocks on the day.
Kenworthy was just shy of another double-double with 19 kills and nine digs. Senior setter Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, Calif.) totaled 41 assists, seven digs and a whopping five service aces.
Hanson, who came into tonight's match ranked sixth in the NCAA in hitting percentage at .443, upped her season numbers with 11 kills on .647 hitting tonigh. She also contributed three total blocks. Classmate Kim McEathron (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) was solid with eight kills and eight digs.
Lehigh received double-double efforts from Michelle Schwendenmann (16 kills, 12 digs) and Nikky Barnes (10 kills, 12 digs) along with double-digit kills from two others.
The Red Foxes have a week to prepare for their MAAC opener when they will head to Siena for a 7:00 p.m. matchup next Wednesday.
