Final Stats
Riverdale, N.Y. -
Redshirt sophomore Meg Dahlman (Spencerport, N.Y.) scored a career-high 25 points to lead Marist to a 61-40 victory at Manhattan this afternoon. With the win, the first place Red Foxes improved to 14-5 overall, 9-1 MAAC while the Jaspers dropped to 7-12/4-6 MAAC. For the second consecutive game, all 13 Marist players saw action and nine scored.
The Red Foxes put forth a tremendous effort on both sides of the court, holding the Jaspers to just 32.6% shooting and forcing 15 turnovers. Marist played a very disciplined game, turning the ball over a paltry six times and committing 11 fouls, just three shooting. The Foxes assisted on 17 of 21 field goals and snagged 10 steals, led by junior point guard Alisa Kresge (Holmdel, N.J.), who had eight assists and three steals.
Senior guard Kristen Vilardi (Fishkill, N.Y.) kicked off the game with five straight points to give Marist an early lead. A jumper by Larie Dew at 13:11 gave Manhattan its only lead of the day, 6-5. The lead would be short lived as Marist went on an 11-0 run, featuring a trio of three-pointers to go up 16-6 at 10:27. The Red Foxes were sound throughout the remainder of the half, draining a total of seven triples in the period to build a 33-18 lead at the break.
Despite getting a few stops early in the second, the Jaspers could never catch up to the Red Foxes. Manhattan's Gabrielle Cottrell matched a Dahlman three-point play to pull her team within 12, but Dahlman answered with another layup to put Marist ahead 42-28 at 12:53.
The Red Foxes' lead never dipped below double-digits in the half due in large part to their defensive effort. A Mary Alice Duff (Havertown, Pa.) free throw gave the Foxes their largest lead of the game (24 points), 61-37 at 1:30. Manhattan's Aubrie Dellinger hit a last minute three to put her team at the 40-point mark, and that would mark the end of scoring for the game.
Dahlman added three rebounds, three steals and two assists to her well-rounded effort. She was joined in double-figures by Flores with 10, while Fifi Camara (Conakry, Guinea) was the team's high rebounder with six. Kresge had eight assists, one turnover, five rebounds and three steals in 36 minutes of work.
Manhattan did not have any double-digit scorers, but freshman Kelly Regan led her team with eight points. Joann Nwafili, the Jaspers' leading scorer, was held without a point but posted a game-high nine rebounds.
The Red Foxes are back in action Friday Feb. 3 when they head to Siena for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
