Final Stats

BALTIMORE, Md.-Loyola's Andre Collins hit a school record nine 3-pointers on his way to 29 points while leading the Loyola men's basketball squad to a 78-75 victory over Marist at Reitz Arena Sunday afternoon. The Greyhounds improved to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the league, while Marist dropped to 5-6 overall and 0-4 in the MAAC. The win by the Greyhounds was only the second for the school against Marist in the last 14 games.

Neither team took control of the game in the first half until the Red Foxes pulled ahead by seven (38-31) on a 3-pointer by junior James Smith (Nyack, N.Y.) with 1:37 left to go. Loyola's Hassan Fofana put in a layup 22 seconds later to pull the Greyhounds to within five (38-33) at the break.

Loyola came out in the second half and went on a 16-5 run over the first 4:16 of the second half to take a six-point (49-43). The Red Foxes battled back the rest of the way, however, and took a three-point lead (75-72) with 1:26 to go on a 3-pointer by junior Jared Jordan (Hartford, Conn.).

After Collins hit two more free throws with 1:05 to go to pull Loyola to within one, the Greyhounds got the ball back with 32 ticks left after Smith's attempt to hit senior Carl Hood (Houston, Tx.) under the basket drifted out of bounds. Collins nailed his ninth 3-pointer of the game on the ensuing possession to put the Greyhounds up 77-75 with 23 seconds left.

Marist had two more chances to pull out the win, however, junior Will Whittington (Kingwood, Tx.) missed a 3-pointer from the left wing and Jordan committed a turnover in the final 10 seconds to seal the Red Foxes' fourth loss in the league.

Jordan led Marist with 23 points including a career-high five 3-pointers, while sophomore Ben Farmer (Clinton, Conn.) and Smith posted 15 points apiece. Farmer's total was a career-high. Redshirt sophomore Ryan Stilphen (Bay Village, Ohio) also posted his second double-double of the season with 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Jordan also had seven assists and four steals. He entered the week ranked sixth in the nation with 6.7 assists per contest.

Fofana and Michael Tuck also dented double digits for the Greyounds with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Fofana led the Greyhounds on the glass with seven boards, while Shane James had five assists and Collins posted seven steals.

The game was filled with turnovers by both squads with Marist making 24 and Loyola contributing 21. Smith led Marist with seven miscues, while Jordan and Stilphen each had five. Loyola was led by Michael Tuck's five as well.

As a team, the Red Foxes outrebounded Loyola 35-32, but surrendered 14 steals to the Greyhounds.

Marist shot 50 percent (28-for-56) from the field, while Loyola went 27-for-60 (45 percent). The Greyhounds hit half (16-for-32) of their 3-point attempts, while the Red Foxes connected on 42.9 percent (9-for-21). Marist also won the free throw battle, hitting 71.4 percent (10-for-14), while Loyola shot 57.1 percent (8-for-14).

The Red Foxes will now step out of conference to face Liberty in Lynchburg, Va. at 8 p.m. Tuesday evening. The Flames (4-9, 1-1 Big South) knocked off Marist 69-67 last season in Poughkeepsie.
