POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Fairfield's Casey Frobey scored a goal and assisted on two in the Stags 3-1 win over Marist on Sunday afternoon. Marist's Melanie Ondrejik (Manalapan, N.J.) scored her second goal of the season, while sophomore keeper Caitlin Nazarechuk (Ringwood, N.J.) made six saves in the game. Marist stands at 2-8 overall on the season and 0-2 in the MAAC.
Fairfield opened the scoring at the 13:59 mark, when Ahna Johnson was able to beat the Marist defense for a 1-0 lead. Crissie Sidie sent a pass to Frobey who found Johnson behind the Marist defense for her third marker of the season. The Stags would take a 2-0 lead before halftime on an Alex Caram goal in the 41st minute. Frobey picked up her second assist of the day on the eventual game winner.
Frobey closed out her impressive day with a goal at 62:28, when she chipped a ball up and over Nazarechuk to close out the scoring for the Stags.
Marist would close the deficit to two goals with just under three minutes to play on Ondrejik's second goal of the year. She took a cross from Teresa Ferraro (Floral Park, N.Y.) and beat Fairfield keeper Brett Maron to the upper right corner. The assist was Ferraro's first career point.
With the loss Marist has now dropped seven straight games after opening the season 2-1. Marist will look to rebound when it travels to Saint Peter's on October 6 for its first MAAC road contest of the season. Kick-off Jersey City is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
