Oct. 1, 2006

Final Stats

FAIRFIELD, CONN. - Sam Bailey scored with 32 seconds in regulation to send Fairfield to a 1-0 win over Marist on Sunday. Marist goalkeeper Daniel Owens (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) made seven stops in the game, as Marist falls to 3-5-1 overall on the season and 0-1-1 in MAAC play.

The game was scoreless into the 90th minute, when Bailey took a pass from Tom Clements and was able to beat Owens and avoid overtime. The win moves Faiefield to 6-2-1 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in MAAC play thus far.

The Red Foxes struggled all afternoon to find any offense, as they could only muster five shots in the match. Fairfield keeper Jon Paul Francini was forced to make only three saves in the game.

Fairfield held the advantage in shots at 13-5, including a 8-3 edge in shots on goal. The Stags took five corner kicks on the afternoon, while Marist was shut out in that category. Fouls for the match were 15-13 against Fairfield.

The loss ends Marist's two game unbeaten streak and it marks the fifth time the Foxes have been shut out in nine games so far this season. Marist will look to pick up its first MAAC win on Friday, October 6 when it plays host to Saint Peter's. Kick-off in Poughkeepsie is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
