LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - After falling behind 2-0 the Marist Men's Soccer team scored three times in the second half to earn at 3-2 MAAC win at Rider on Friday afternoon. Keith Detelj (Sayville, N.Y.) scored with just over six minutes to play in regulation for the win.
Rider jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Mark Ockenhouse headed in a corner from Evan Lubcher at 12:42. Rider took what appeared to be a commanding 2-0 lead at 25:42 when Mike Juska converted a penalty kick.
Marist got itself back into the game in the 52nd minute when Damian Caputo (Copiague, N.Y.) made it 2-1 on his first goal of the season. He took a pass from Steve Fantuzzo (Penfield, N.Y.) off an indirect kick to begin the comeback.
The Red Foxes tied the score at 72:56 when Luis Andre (Matawan, N.J.) finished a ball from Detelj inside of five yards. The goal was his first of the season and second of his career. The score would remain tied until the 84th minute when Detelj's third of the season beat Rider goalkeeper Daniel Riverso from 15 yards. Fantuzzo was credited with his second helper of the game on the game winner.
Marcelo del Rio earned his second straight win on Friday in making seven saves. Marist outshot the Broncs 18-16 on the afternoon and held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks for the game. Fouls for the match were 23-13 against Rider.
With the win Marist moves to 5-6-1 overall on the season and 2-2-1 in league play. Marist will be back in action on Sunday when it squares off with Loyola. Kick-off in Baltimore is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
