Marist Wins 4-3 Thriller Over Rider

Oct. 13, 2006

Final Stats

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Women's Soccer team picked up its first home win of the season by beating Rider 4-3 on Friday night. Katie Zasly (Foster City, Calif.) had a goal and an assist, while Keri Koegel (Merrick, N.Y.) picked up two assists for the Foxes.

Rider opened the scoring at the 14:23 mark when Stephanie Madden found Tara Morris off a free kick. Morris tucked a ball under the crossbar to give the Broncs an early 1-0 lead. Marist tied the score at 30:31 on Caitrin Farry's (Short Hills, N.J.) second marker of the season. Zasly and Haley Hart were credited with the assists on the goal.

Marist would take a 2-1 lead in the 57th minute when Kate Fox (Franklin, Mass.) found the back of the net to give Marist a 2-1 lead. Fox headed in a free kick by Maria Baez (Levittown, N.Y.). Rider came back just eight minutes later to tie the score at two when Kelli Burke floated a ball over Marist keeper Anna Case's (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) head.

Marist would then go on to score two straight goals to take a 4-2 lead with just over six minutes left in the contest. Zasly headed in a free kick by Koegel at 79:26. The Foxes would strike again at 83:43 when Laura Zasly (Foster City, Calif.) headed in a corner from Koegel.

Rider would make things interesting with just under five minutes to play when Madden scored to cut the Marist lead to 4-3. But that would be as close as the Broncs would get as Marist held on for the win.

Case, making her first appearance of the year, picked up the win. Marist outshot Rider 12-4 in the game, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. Marist also edged Rider in corners at 3-2 and fouls for the game were 14-11 against Rider.

With the win Marist improves to 4-9 on the season and 2-3 in the MAAC. The Foxes will be back in action on Sunday when they take on Loyola at Vassar's Pretiss Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
