JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Marist Volleyball squad snapped a five match losing skid on Sunday afternoon, as it topped Saint Peter's 3-1. Scores for the match were 30-25, 30-21, 27-30 and 30-18 in favor of the Red Foxes. Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) and Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas) each recorded a double-double for the Foxes.
Sunday marked the second time this season Marist has bested the Peahens. Marist's last win prior to Sunday was a 3-2 win over Saint Peter's on September 24 in Poughkeepsie. Kenworthy led the Marist charge with 22 kills in the match; she was followed by Schultze with 15 and Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.) with 15. Hanson hit a team best .364 in the match and recorded a match high five service aces.
Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz.) and Kelsey Schaefer (Maria Stein, Ohio) recorded seven and six kills, respectively, while freshman setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) recorded a match high 55 assists.
On the defensive side, Marist had three players record double-figures in digs, led by Stefanie Miksch (Austin, Texas) with 24. Schultze posted 16 digs, while Kenworthy recorded 12 on the afternoon. Lukes and Hanson tied for the team lead in blocks with five apiece, while Schultze posted four total blocks in the match.
With the win, its first road victory of the season, Marist improves to 5-14 overall this season and 3-7 in MAAC play. Marist will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Iona at 7:00 p.m. In their last meeting on September 20 the Foxes and Gales competed in a hard fought five game match, which saw Iona prevail 3-2.
