ELMA, N.Y.-The Marist women's soccer squad tied the Niagara women 3-3 Friday afternoon at Sahlen's Sports Park. The Red Foxes moved to 4-10-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the MAAC, while the Purple Eagles finished at 7-5-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the league.
Trailing 3-1 in the second half, Niagara sophomore Stephanie Gartley scored her 11th goal of the season when sophomore Caitlin Long dribbled the ball up the middle of the field, passed to Emily Montgomery on the left who then feed Gartley in front of the net in the 67th minute.
Montgomery tied the game with her second goal of the game and eighth goal of the season when she converted on a free kick in the 78th minute.
Niagara took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Christina Langrell served the ball from the left corner to Montgomery to the side of the goal where she beat Marist sophomore keeper Anna Case (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) to the lower left side in the first minute of play.
Marist scored the next three goals as redshirt junior forward Caitrin Farry (Short Hills, N.J.) scored on a give-and-go play from freshman forward Kate Fox (Franklin, Mass.) in the 47th minute.
Freshman midfielder Laura Zasly (Foster City, Ca.) made it 2-1 Red Foxes in the 60th minute when junior midfielder Keri Koegel (Merrick, N.Y.) served the ball and Zasly scored on a scramble in front of the net.
Fox picked a goal when she tapped the ball in from the box after Niagara keeper Sarah Stephens was pulled out of the net.
Stephens finished with five saves and Case with eight.
The Red Foxes will head over to Buffalo Sunday for a noon match at Canisius.
