POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Men's Soccer team dropped a hard fought 3-2 decision to Niagara (6-5-3, 4-0-2 MAAC) on Friday night. Anthony Graci (Kings Park, N.Y.) and Keith Detelj (Sayville, N.Y.) each scored a goal and an assist for the Red Foxes.
Niagara opened the scoring at 19:40 when 2005 MAAC Player of the Year Matt Stedman found Kwame Oduro who put the ball over Marist keeper Michael Danyo's (Cherry Hill, N.J.) head for an early 1-0 lead. Marist would come back to tie the score at 23:44 when Graci headed in a cross from Detelj, as the teams went to halftime tied 1-1.
Detelj put the Red Foxes up 2-1 at 58:08 when he finished a pass from Graci to the left corner of the cage for Marist's only lead of the night. Stedman, though, proved to be too much as he tied the score at 2-2 when he finished a rebound at 72:33 and then set up Oduro for the game winner, his second of the night, at 84:58.
Niagara keeper John Fiutowski made three saves in net for the Purple Eagles, while Danyo made one save in the first half and Marcelo del Rio (Glendale, N.Y.) made a stop in the second frame.
Marist held the advantage in shots for the game 16-10, as well as in corners at 8-3. Fouls for the match were 14-12 against the Foxes.
Prior to Friday night's contest, Detelj, Graci and Danyo were all honored on senior night for their contributions to the program. They and the rest of the Red Foxes will be back in action on Sunday at Vassar College's Prentiss Field for a 1:00 p.m. match with Canisius.
