BUFFALO, N.Y. - Canisius used two second half goals to slip past Marist 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore net minder Anna Case (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) made three saves in the second half for the Foxes.
The teams played a scoreless first half, which saw Marist outshoot the Griffs 7-3. Canisius, however, would get the game winning goal just after the intermission at 48:57. Heidi Wein finished a rebound off a shot from Danielle Bernier to the right corner for the 1-0 advantage.
The Griffs would add an insurance marker with just over 10 minutes to play when Carly McGunnuigle put away her second goal of the year off a pass from Amanda Janosky for the final two goal advantage.
Canisius goalkeeper Jenna Gage made four saves for the shutout, while Caitlin Nazarechuk (Ringwood, N.J.) made one save in the first half for Marist before giving way to Case.
For the game, Canisius out shot Marist 14-12, while the Foxes held the advantage in corner kicks at 4-2. Fouls for the match were 19-7 against Marist.
At 4-11-1 overall and 2-5-1 in league play, Marist will be back on the pitch on Tuesday night for makeup game with Columbia. Kick-off in New York City is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
