POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Juan Gaviria scored two goals for Saint Peter's on Friday night, leading it to a 4-2 win over Marist on a clear, cool night in Poughkeepsie. Steve Fantuzzo (Penfield, N.Y.) and Anthony Graci (Kings Park, N.Y.) were the goal scorers for Marist.

Saint Peter's took an early lead in the match and never gave Marist any chance to get back into the game. Marco Orias gave the Peacocks a 1-0 lead at 13:44 off a throw in from Assaf Sheleg. Just under 10 minutes later, the Peacocks were up 2-0 on Udi Naim's goal from Sylvers Owusu. Saint Peter's took a 3-0 lead into halftime on Gaviria's first of the game at the 36:26 mark.

Saint Peter's never backed off and came out in the second half the same way it ended the first. Six and a half minutes into the frame Gaviria had his second goal of the game and the Peacocks had an insurmountable 4-0 lead.

Marist got on the board in the 59th minute when Fantuzzo converted a penalty kick to close the deficit to 4-1. Graci closed to score to 4-2 on a pass from Keith Detelj (Sayville, N.Y.). The goal was Graci's first marker of the season.

Marist used a trio of goalkeepers in the match. Daniel Owens (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), Tyler Johnson (Simsbury, Conn.) and Marcelo del Rio (Glendale, N.Y.) each made two saves apiece. Owens took the loss, falling to 2-6-1 on the season.

The Peacocks held the advantage in shots on the night at 13-8, including a 10-3 edge in shots on goal. The Foxes held the advantage in corners at 6-2, while fouls were 11-9 against Marist.

At 3-6-1 overall and 0-2-1 in MAAC play, Marist will look to rebound on Sunday afternoon when it will play Manhattan at 1:00 p.m. A scheduling note regarding Sunday afternoon's match is that the game will be played at Vassar College's Prentiss Field off of Hooker Avenue in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
