Final Stats
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist used four different goal scorers to defeat Manhattan 4-1 and pick up its first league win of the season. Jamison Allegra (East Haven, Conn.) tallied his team leading fourth goal of the season in the second half.
Senior captain Anthony Graci (Kings Park, N.Y.) got the scoring started for Marist at the 21:38 mark on assists from Bruno Machado (Danbury, Conn.) and Luis Andre (Matawan, N.J.) to give Marist a 1-0, which it would hold into the half.
The Red Foxes extended their lead to 2-0 in the second half on Steve Fantuzzo's (Penfield, N.Y.) third marker of the year. After Marist was awarded a free kick just out side of the penalty area, Fantuzzo tucked a shot just underneath the cross bar for the eventual game winner.
Marist would add two more goals in the second half when Allegra finished a pass from Graci at 63:14 and Keith Detelj (Sayville, N.Y.) picked up his second of the year off a pass inside the box from Allegra to close out the scoring for Marist.
Manhattan scored its lone goal of the game in the 71st minute on a pretty set up by James Gannon. He switched the ball from left to right and found a wide open Paul Rolston who put the ball in an empty net.
Sophomore Marcelo del Rio (Glendale, N.Y.) got the nod in net for Marist and finished with four saves, picking up his first win of the season.
The Foxes held the edge in shots on the day at 13-10, including a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. Marist also led in corner kicks at 5-3, while fouls in the game were even at eight apiece.
With the victory, Marist improves to 4-6-1 on the season and 1-2-1 in MAAC play. Marist will hit the road for its next two league contests, returning to action on October 13 at Rider and then at Loyola on October 15. Kick-off for the Rider game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Lawrenceville, N.J.
