RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan used three unanswered second half goals to collect a 3-1 win over Marist on Sunday morning. Kristen Leonhard (Succasunna, N.J.) tallied her second goal of the year in the first half for Marist's lone goal.
Leonhard opened the scoring in the game just over 30 minutes in on a scramble in front of the cage. She put the shot in off a pass from Caitrin Farry (Short Hills, N.J.) for a 1-0 Marist lead at the half. Marist held a 14-5 advantage in shots in the first half, but could only convert on the one goal.
Manhattan came out in the second half and scored on three of their six shots in the frame. Alexandra Konneker knotted the score for the Jaspers in the 49th minute on a shot from inside the box. The score remained tied at one, until the final 10 minutes when Manhattan put the game away with two goals just under six minutes apart to put the game away. Courtney McMahon and Kimarie Balistierri scored at 82:16 and 87:59 to give Manhattan (8-4-1) the victory.
Marist used two goalkeepers in the match, with sophomore Caitlin Nazarechuk (Ringwood, N.J.) getting the start, allowing one goal and making two saves in 68:30. Freshman Kristen Aliperti (West Babylon, N.Y.) took the loss for the Foxes, making one save.
For the game, Marist held a 17-11 advantage in shots, but trailed the Jaspers in corner kicks 5-1. Fouls for the match were 7-6 against Manhattan.
With the loss Marist falls to 3-9 overall on the season and 1-3 in MAAC contests. The Foxes will return to the field on Friday the 13th for a home contest with Rider. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
