POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's volleyball team closed out its regular season with a 3-0 victory over Manhattan on Senior Day at the McCann Center on Sunday. The Red Foxes prevailed by scores of 30-26, 30-26, 30-24 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest.
Playing her final match at the McCann Center, senior outside hitter Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) totaled team-bests with 20 kills and 16 digs. Kenworthy hit .385 for the match.
Senior libero Stefanie Miksch (Austin, Texas) added 14 digs for the Red Foxes. Freshman outside hitter Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas) finished with nine kills, five digs and three aces. Senior middle blocker Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.) had six kills and six blocks. Freshman setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) tallied 36 assists.
Rita Welsh led Manhattan in kills with 12, and Whitney Judkins had 11. Ashley Watson finished with 14 digs, and Alyssa Getzel had 31 assists.
Marist closed out its regular season with a record of 11-17, and 8-10 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes will have the fifth seed in the MAAC Championships, which begin on Thursday in Orlando, Fla. On Thursday, the Red Foxes will have a rematch against Manhattan in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. The fifth-place finish is the best in the Red Foxes' 10 years in the conference.
The Red Foxes' victory avenged a 3-2 loss to Manhattan on Sept. 30. Marist's last three victories have all come by a 3-0 score.
Manhattan closes out its regular season at 12-19 overall and 9-9 in the MAAC.
