NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Marist Men's Swimming and Diving team earned the 199th dual meet win in its 27-plus year history with a 138-85 win over Iona on Tuesday night. Swimmers Spencer Hartmann (Windsor, Conn.) and MAAC Swimmer of the Week Greg Jablonski (Massapequa, N.Y.) won two individual events, while John Luboja (New York, N.Y.) swept the diving events for the Foxes.
Marist got out of the gate by winning the 400-yard medley relay on Tuesday night. The team of Pat Collins (Nutley, N.J.), Mark Esolen (Archbald, Pa.), Will Shearouse (Milford, N.H.) and Ralph Rienzo (Wallingford, Conn.) bested the field in a time of 3:36.97. Collins and Esolen would go on to win an individual event apiece, as Collins won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.53 seconds and Esolen topped the field in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:02.36.
Hartmann also had a strong night, sweeping the distance freestyle events for the Foxes. He won the 1,000-yard free in a time of 10:04.26, before taking the top position in the 500-yard free in a time of 4:48.62.
Jablonski, who was named the MAAC Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, won two events as well against the Gaels. His first win came in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.04. He followed that up with a victory in the 100-yard free in 48.68 seconds.
Seniors Nick Chevalier (Milford, N.H.) and Dan Garaffa (Manchester, Conn.) were also winners for the Foxes against the Gaels. Chevalier picked up his win in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:00.38, while Garaffa took the top spot in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.86.
Luboja came away with wins in both diving events for Marist on Tuesday. He posted a winning score in the one-meter event of 219.98. The junior then went on to best the field off the three-meter board with a score of 194.85.
Tuesday's win improves Marist's record to 4-0 overall in dual meets and 3-0 in the MAAC. The Foxes will look to stay perfect when they travel to Baltimore to take on Niagara, Delaware and host Loyola on December 1. The two day event kicks-off at 5:00 p.m. on Friday the first.
