LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. - The Marist Women's Volleyball team fell 3-0 to Manhattan (13-19, 9-9 MAAC) in the first round of the MAAC Tournament on Thursday afternoon. Stefanie Miksch (Austin, Texas) totaled 12 digs in the match for the Foxes. Scores of the match were 24-30, 19-30 and 21-30 in favor of the Jaspers.
Offensively for Marist, freshman Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas) totaled seven kills in the match, while Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.) and Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) followed with six and five, respectively. Junior Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz.) also recorded six kills on the afternoon and led Marist in hitting percentage with a .357 clip. Freshman setter Dawn Jan posted 22 assists for the Foxes.
On the defensive side, Miksch's 12 digs were a team high, while Kenworthy finished the afternoon with nine. Schultze and Jan each totaled eight digs apiece for Marist. Lukes would post a team high four total blocks, while Jackie Poston (Huntingtown, Md.) followed with three.
Manhattan was led by two players with double figure kills in Whitney Judkins with 16 and Kandice Watson with 11. Setter Alyssa Getzel finished with a match high 43 assists, while Ashley Watson paced everyone with a match high in digs with 20. Rita Welsh led four Jaspers with multiple blocks with a match high six.
The loss drops Marist to 11-18 overall on the season. The Red Foxes will be back in action on Friday afternoon in a consolation match scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
