LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. - The Marist Women's Volleyball team's season came to a heartbreaking end on Friday after a 3-2 loss to Iona in the MAAC Tournament. Senior captain Jaime Kenworthy posted a double-double for the Foxes, recording a match high 24 kills and a team high 23 digs. Scores of the match were 30-22, 26-30, 29-31, 30-14 and 15-17 in favor of the Gaels.
Kenworthy was one of three Red Foxes in double figures in kills, with Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas) recording 15 and senior Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.) posting 14. Hanson led the Foxes in hitting percentage, registering a .353 mark. Freshman setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) totaled 55 assists in the match.
Kenworthy also led Marist in digs with 23. She was one of four to post 10-plus digs and one of two to record at least 20. Schultze posted 20 on the afternoon, while Stefanie Miksch (Austin, Texas) followed with 19 and Kim McEathron (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) finished with 11. Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz.) and Jackie Poston (Huntingtown, Md.) led Marist with five total blocks each, while Hanson finished with four on the afternoon.
Iona featured a balanced attack that saw three Gaels reach double digit kills, led by Sarah Wiener with 18. She was followed by Megan Dailey and Kristin Allain with 17 and 12, respectively. Five Gaels reached at least 10 digs, with Shelby Erb posting a match high 25. Alyssa Morales posted a team high five blocks and a match high 58 assists for Iona in the win.
2006 was a historic year for the Foxes as Kenworthy and Hanson became the first two players in Marist history to record 1,000 kills, while Hanson became the career leader in service aces, finishing with 168.
Marist closes out the 2006 campaign with an 11-19 mark overall and an 8-10 record in MAAC play.
