Dartmouth-Marist Quotes

Nov. 22, 2006

Recap |  Final Stats

Marist Head Coach Brian Giorgis

On bouncing back from the losses at Duke and at Villanova:

"One, it helps playing at home. We've been a very, very good basketball team at home. Our two losses, we played well ... we didn't play that well down at Villanova, but that's what Villanova does to you. We've given Duke their best game of the year by far. We've actually given one of the best teams in the country their best game. I really thought those two games helped us. It doesn't look like it by the score, but Dartmouth is a quality team. They play hard, they're aggressive, they get to the basket and they have a good inside game."

On his team's defensive effort:

"I thought it was the best team defense we played all year, by far."

On defense leading to offense:

"This was the style of defense we played last year, where we were much more aggressive, swarmed much better and forced people to shoot poor percentages. Our game isn't so much about steals and things like that, it's really forcing them to take the shots we want them to take, which are difficult shots and then hopefully hold them to one shot and get into our running game. Our depth really showed; they started wearing down and we started to get baskets in transition off of either tips or defensive rebounds."

On the team effort the Red Foxes put forth:

"I was very pleased with the way we got contributions from everyone, particularly on the defensive end. Overall, it was a great way to go into Thanksgiving break."

On his team's improved offensive rebounding (Marist had 15 against Dartmouth):

"We finally got offensive rebounds. One thing we worked on the last two days was going to the offensive boards. I thought we did a pretty good job with that."

On the play of his bench:

"I thought our bench did a great job. Nikki obviously coming in, really gave us a spark hitting that jumper right off the bat. The two freshmen - Rachele and Brittany - missed one shot between them. They did a great job."

On facing Fordham on Sunday:

"They have a new coach; they're pretty young. I think the way our kids feel is that when they play in front of their hometown people and the great support we get from Dutchess County and the Marist community, it doesn't matter who you bring in here. We feel we can play and compete with anybody in our gym."

Red-shirt junior center Meg Dahlman

On bouncing back from the losses at Duke and at Villanova:

"We had a tough weekend. Those two games we came out flat, so we knew we wanted to come out and make our own run instead of letting the other team make a run on us. I think we did that in the first half."

Freshman forward Rachele Fitz

On being able to hit six of her seven field-goal attempts:

"Our guards are able to get us the ball in great, open positions and we just go strong with it."
