Red Foxes Stifle Saints, 68-55

Feb. 3, 2006

Final Stats

Loudonville, N.Y. - Marist's frontcourt duo of Fifi Camara (Conakry, Guinea) and Meg Dahlman (Spencerport, N.Y.) combined for 39 points and 17 rebounds to lead Marist to a 68-55 victory at Siena tonight. The Red Foxes improved to 15-5 overall and 10-1 in the MAAC and handed Siena (9-11/5-6 MAAC) its first loss at home in MAAC play. Prior to tonight's contest, Siena was 9-2/5-0 MAAC at home.

The Red Foxes came out of the gates blazing, going on a 17-3 run to open up the game and take a 14-point lead at 11:38. Siena was unable to get its offense going, and was held below double-digits until there was just 3:23 remaining in the first half. The Red Foxes got back-to-back threes from Courtney Kolesar (Painesville, Ohio) and Kristen Vilardi (Fishkill, N.Y.) and Siena made a pair of buckets to take the score to 33-15, Marist, at the break.

Marist opened up the second half on an 8-0 run to take the 41-15 advantage at 17:11. The Red Foxes kept the pressure on both sides of the court, making several big stops to keep their momentum going. A layup by Camara at 13:36 gave Marist its largest lead of the game, 28 points, 49-21. The Saints slowly started to cut into the Red Foxes lead, going on a 12-0 run to cut it to 53-38 at 6:29. Dahlman hit a big three to stop the bleeding for Marist and that would prove the final dagger to the Saints.

The game became increasingly physical down the stretch, with both teams making several trips to the free throw line. The Foxes held onto their lead and made free-throws to seal the victory before Siena's Katelyn Dooley hit a three to take the final to 68-55, Marist.

Dahlman led all scorers with 24 points on 75% shooting along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Camara had a well-rounded outing with 15 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and four steals. Nikki Flores (Montvale, N.J.) added 10 points and five assists in her first collegiate start.

Whitney Cave led Siena with 16 points, eight rebounds. Laura Menty recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Red Foxes will head to Fairfield on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. start against the Stags.
