Marist Swimming and Diving Teams Finish Season Ranked In Top 25

March 21, 2006

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams were recognized for their accomplishments by finishing the 2006 campaign ranked in collegeswimming.com's final Mid-Major poll. The men finished at number 21, while the women claimed the 25th position.

The women's team finished the season by winning its third consecutive MAAC title and the school's first ever ECAC Championship. The Red Foxes were led by senior Meghan Duffy (Cheshire, Conn.) who was named the league's Diver of the Week for the final six weeks of the season. Duffy went on to be named the MAAC Diver of the Year for the second straight season. The women ended the dual meet portion of their schedule with a 9-2 record.

On the men's side, the Red Foxes claimed their second straight MAAC crown, as they avenged their first regular season MAAC dual meet loss ever to Rider, by downing the Broncs at the league championships. Marist followed that up by placing in third place at the ECAC Championships hosted by the University of Pittsburgh. Marist finished the season with just one loss, to Rider, as its record was 9-1.

With the sweep of the MAAC Championships, head coach Larry J. VanWagner's teams have won 18 MAAC titles, 10 of a possible 11 by the men's program and eight by the women, including the last three in a row.
