POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Junior right fielder Travis Musolf (Manchester, N.J.) had four RBIs Saturday to power the Marist baseball squad to an 11-5 victory Saturday afternoon at the McCann Baseball Field. The Red Foxes improved to 7-13 overall and 2-2 in the MAAC with the win, while Canisius dropped to 7-18 and 1-3 in the league. The second game of Saturday's doubleheader was pushed to noon on Sunday, which will be a seven inning affair. The final game of the series will be played immediately following that game.
Musolf was one of four Red Foxes to bag two hits (both triples) on the day, with senior shortstop Andy Kiriakedes (Great Barrington, Mass.), junior third baseman Pat Feeney (New City, N.Y.) and second baseman Kyle Meyer (Greenbush, N.Y.) also accomplishing the feat.
The Golden Griffins were led by second baseman Kevin Smith and third baseman Kevin Mahoney, who had two hits apiece. Left fielder Connor Burke also had a pair of RBI.
Redshirt senior Jonathan Smith (Woonsocket, R.I.) picked up his first win of the season with a five-inning effort that saw the tall lefthander allow four earned runs on seven hits. He also walked one and struck out one. Canisius starter Mike Bax suffered his third defeat of the season after giving up one earned run on three hits with five strikeout and four walks in four innings.
The game was delayed by an hour in the fifth inning due to a rain delay. The contest also featured six hit batters between the two squads.
