POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Freshman Max Most (Port Washington, N.Y.) dropped an RBI single into left field to lift the Marist baseball squad over visiting Albany by a score of 3-2 Tuesday at Leonidoff Field. Marist improved to 10-18 overall with the win, while the Great Danes dropped to 8-17. The victory snapped a five-game losing streak for the home team.
Marist junior closer Robert Ryan (Roslindale, Mass.) picked up his first victory (1-1) of the season in relief after blowing his eighth save. Ryan allowed two runs on three hits in the top of the ninth against the Danes.
Albany's Matthew Herrick suffered his second loss of the season (0-2), pitching just one-third of an inning, while surrendering a hit and a walk.
Most knocked in a pair of runs on the afternoon, while redshirt junior Adam Pernasilici (Tecumseh, Ontario) had a sacrifice fly. Senior shortstop Andy Kiriakedes (Great Barrington, Mass.) scored a pair of runs in the affair.
Right fielder Leo Corvino led Albany with two hits, while second baseman Al Barbato and center fielder Rashad Barksdale droved in runs for the Great Danes, both of which came off of Ryan.
Marist freshman starter Josh Rickards (Glenolden, Pa.) gave the Red Foxes five strong innings, allowing three hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Albany starter Josh Willimott allowed two runs on five hits with four walks in five and a third innings pitched.
Marist will now hit the road to face the New York Institute of Technology on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
