Red Foxes Drop Inaugural Hudson Valley Baseball Classic To Army

April 19, 2006

Final Stats

FISHKILL, N.Y.-Army shortstop Kyle Scogin and left fielder Milan Dinga collected two hits apiece to lead the Black Knights over the Marist baseball squad 6-1 Wednesday in the inaugural Hudson Valley Baseball Classic at Dutchess Stadium. Army improved to 20-16-1 with the win, while the Red Foxes dropped to 13-21.

Dinga, the Black Knights' closer, also scored a pair of runs and pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the victors. Perhaps his biggest highlight of the evening, however, came in the third inning when his single to right extended his school record hitting streak to 24 games.

Army's Drew Clothier (2-3) was credited with the victory, tossing four innings and allowing just one run on two hits with five strikeouts. Marist junior starter Bobby Hastry (Maynard, Mass.) suffered his sixth loss (1-6) of the season, yielding one earned run on three hits with one strikeout and one walk.

Sophomore reliever Rob Glowacki (Red Bank, N.J.) provided Marist's highlight of the evening, holding Army hitless and scoreless over the final five innings of play. He also added five strikeouts against no walks.

Junior designated hitter Justin Lepore (Madison, Conn.), the reigning MAAC Player of the Week, drove in Marist's only run with an RBI single in the fifth frame.

The game featured just one extra-base hit, five hit batsmen and six errors between the two schools, five of which were committed by Marist. As a result, only two of the six runs charged to Marist pitching were earned Wednesday evening. The Red Foxes entered the week sixth in the MAAC in fielding percentage at .955.

Marist, who is tied for fourth in the MAAC at 7-5, will now turn its attention to a crucial league road series at Fairfield, who enters the weekend with a 6-6 league mark. Game time for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader is noon.
