Final Stats
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Junior right fielder Travis Musolf (Manchester, N.J.) ripped a two-run single to left in the 10th inning Sunday to give the Marist baseball squad a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Manhattan at the McCann Baseball Field. The Red Foxes improved to 18-24 overall and 11-6 in the MAAC, while the Jaspers dropped to 20-18 and 10-7 in league play.
With the win, Marist moves into sole possession of fourth place in the league, the final qualifying spot for the MAAC Tournament.
The teams remained deadlocked at two apiece until the 10th inning when Jaspers' catcher Nick Derba put Manhattan ahead 3-2 on a sacrifice fly to center off Marist junior reliever Erik Supplee (Williamsburg, Va.), scoring right fielder Nunzio Franzese.
Marist battled back in the top half of the frame against Manhattan reliever Kyle Wirtz and loaded the bases on a double by senior catcher Bryan Towler (Hampton, N.H.), a fielding error by Jaspers shortstop Rene Ruiz and a walk by freshman second baseman Kyle Meyer (East Greenbush, N.Y.). Musolf then lined a 2-1 Wirtz offering into the outfield for the game's dramatic conclusion.
Musolf, junior designated hitter Adam Pernasilici (Tecumseh, Ontario), freshman center fielder Max Most (Port Washington, N.Y.) and junior third baseman Pat Feeney (New City, N.Y.) all had two hits, while Musolf's three RBIs led the way. Manhattan was led by two hits apiece from Franzese, third baseman Dom Lombardi and left fielder Eric Nieto. Derba also knocked in a pair of runs.
Supplee (4-1) picked up the win, tossing the final two innings with one run on two hits and a walk. His effort came on the heels of a fine performance by Marist starter Josh Rickards (Glenolden, Pa.), who hurled eight innings and yielded just two runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Wirtz (2-2) suffered his second loss, allowing just one earned run on two hits with one strikeout and three walks over Manhattan's final three innings.
The Red Foxes will travel to Albany on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
