Final Stats

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-The University of Connecticut baseball team used 11 early runs and six Marist errors to defeat the Red Foxes 19-6 Wednesday afternoon at the McCann Baseball Field. The Huskies improved to 18-9 overall, while Marist dropped to 9-14. The loss was the second for Marist in as many seasons to UConn, after suffering a 10-5 setback in Storrs, Conn. last season.

UConn was led by four players with three hits, which included outfielder Austin Wasserman (3-for-6), catcher Larry Day (3-for-5), designated hitter Matt Karl (3-for-5) and right fielder Josh Farkes (3-for-5). Wasserman and Karl also led UConn with four RBIs apiece, while Day and Farkes each drove in a pair of runs. Second baseman Pat Mahoney, center fielder Bryan Maler and first baseman Matt Untiet all led the Huskies with three runs scored.

Junior Adam Pernasilici (Tecumseh, Ontario) led Marist with a 4-for-4 effort, driving in two runs with a run scored. Center fielder Travis Musolf (Manchester, N.J.) and right fielder Tom Ciccarone (Somerset, N.J.) also had three hits apiece. Musolf also led the squad with a pair of runs scored, while second baseman Kyle Meyer (Greenbush, N.Y.) drove in two runs with his second triple of the season in the sixth inning. With his hitting effort, Pernasilici took over the team hitting lead and is now batting .452 on the season.

UConn starter John Slusarz picked up the win, advancing his record to 2-1 on the season with a five inning, six hit effort. He also yielded two runs and two walks, but fanned five Marist batters. Marist starter Bobby Hastry (1-5) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on four hits in just two innings, while striking out one and walking one.

The Red Foxes will turn their attention to a Thursday road date with Army, scheduled for 3 p.m. at West Point.
