Marist Tops Iona 11-9 In Regular Season Finale

May 19, 2006

Final Stats

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Marist junior right fielder Tom Ciccarone (Somerville, N.J.) and junior third baseman Pat Feeney (New City, N.Y.) notched three hits apiece as the Red Foxes defeated Iona 11-9 Friday afternoon at the McCann Baseball Field.

With the win, Marist improved to 24-28 overall and 16-10 in the MAAC, while Iona finished its season at 12-42 overall and 8-18 in the league. Marist will qualify as the No. 4 seed in next week's MAAC Tournament if Saint Peter's defeats Niagara tomorrow in a noon contest at Niagara. If the game is not played, Niagara would still advance to the tournament by virtue of its sweep of Marist earlier this season.

Junior center fielder Travis Musolf (Manchester, N.J.) also scored three runs, while junior designated hitter Justin Lepore (Madison, Conn.) had three RBI. Iona was led by left fielder Allie Abbatiello's 3-for-5 effort with four RBI. Right fielder Nick Capowski also knocked in three runs.

The game was delayed by 90 minutes due to a rain delay after three innings.

Marist junior reliever Erik Supplee (5-1, Williamsburg, Va.) picked up his fifth win of the season, tossing three innings and allowing just one run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Iona's Matt Costello (3-9) suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs on 11 hits to go with two strikeouts and one walk over three innings.

Feeney finished the regular season as Marist's leading hitter with a .372 batting average and a .455 on-base percentage, while Lepore holds the top team marks in home runs (9), runs batted in (42) and slugging percentage (.562). Feeney and Lepore share the team lead in total bases at 95.

Marist freshman Josh Rickards (Glenolden, Pa.) holds the squad's lowest ERA among Marist's starting rotation (4.11), while redshirt senior George Heath (Henrietta, N.Y.) has collected a team-high six wins. Junior closer Robert Ryan (Roslindale, Mass.) finished the regular season with 10 saves, while Heath has the most strikeouts (49).
