Final Stats
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Senior shortstop Andy Kiriakedes (Great Barrington, Mass.) went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to lead the Marist baseball squad to a 13-2 rout of Siena Sunday at the McCann Baseball Field on Senior Day.
With the win, Marist improved to 21-25 overall and 13-7 in MAAC play, while Siena dropped to 21-27-1 and 10-11 in the league. Marist is entrenched in third place in the MAAC, one game ahead of Manhattan (12-8) in fourth and a game and a half ahead of Niagara (12-9) in fifth. The Red Foxes are the defending MAAC champions.
Kiriakedes, who has struggled uncharacteristically at the plate this season, erupted in the fourth his first home run of the season, a laser shot over the fence in left. He also scored four runs on the afternoon.
Junior left fielder Adam Pernasilici (Tecumseh, Ontario) went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs, while junior center fielder Travis Musolf (Manchester, N.J.) drove in four runs. Junior right fielder Tom Ciccarone (Somerville, N.J.) also posted a 2-for-4 outing, while freshman second baseman Kyle Meyer (East Greenbush, N.Y.) scored a pair of runs.
That offense turned out to be more than enough for Marist freshman lefthander Josh Rickards (3-0, Glenolden, Pa.), who tossed eight innings, allowing just four hits and one run with three strikeouts and two walks.
Shortstop Chris Klepps had a pair of doubles for Siena, his seventh and eighth of the season.
Siena starter Matt Moberg (4-4) was tagged with the loss, going four and two-thirds innings with six hits and six earned runs. He also struck out three and walked two.
Marist batters were hit five times by Siena pitching, including three for senior catcher Bryan Towler (Hampton, N.H.) alone.
The turning point in the contest proved to be the fifth inning when the Red Foxes tallied five runs off the Saints, all with two outs
The Red Foxes will be back in action Saturday when they head to Le Moyne for a doubleheader at noon.
