NEWARK, DEL. - The Marist women's volleyball squad dropped its season opener on Friday evening to the University of Delaware 3-0. Scores of the match were 20-30, 8-30 and 8-30 in favor of the Fightin' Blue Hens. Senior Middle Blocker Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif.) posted a .400 hitting percentage in the match for the Foxes, who open the season 0-1.
Hanson along with freshman Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas) each recorded a trio of kills for Marist, while Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) recorded 10 assists in her collegiate debut. Senior Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) notched eight of the Red Foxes' 24 total digs in the match.
For Delaware, Kelly Gibson collected 12 of the Blue Hens' 41 kills in the match, as they hit .383 on the night.
Marist (0-1) will be back in action twice on Saturday on day two of the Delaware Invitational. First up for the Foxes will be the University of Texas-Arlington at 11 a.m., followed by a match with Seton Hall at 5 p.m.
