POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist volleyball squad lost a hard fought match to Colgate on Friday night on the first day of the Marist Red Fox Classic. Junior Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz.) paced the Red Foxes with 11 kills and six blocks, as they fell 30-27, 30-26 and 30-21 to the Red Raiders.
Lukes, who hit .471 for the match, was one of two Red Foxes to record double-digit kills, as Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) led the team with 13. The two combined for 24 of the teams' 37 total kills. Kenworthy and freshman Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas) tied for the team lead in digs with eight apiece.
Freshman setter Dawn Jan ( Belleville, N.J.) again led the way in assists for Marist, as she posted 29 for the match, raising her season total to 113.
Colgate was led by Katrina Zawojski who was the Red Raiders team leader in kills with 10, as she hit .391 for the match. Meghan Fanta posted 36 assists for Colgate and libero Jackie Adlam paced Colgate in digs with 11.
With the loss, Marist falls to 0-5 on the young season. The Red Foxes will be back in action tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. when they open day two of The Classic with a match against Wagner, who fell to Central Connecticut 3-0 to open the tournament.
