Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Marist College women's volleyball team came back after dropping the first two games to defeat Niagara, 3-2 (31-33, 27-30, 30-17, 30-23, 15-8), at the McCann Center in its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener on Saturday.
Senior outside hitter Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) paced the Red Foxes with 28 digs and 22 kills. For the second straight match, freshman setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) established a career high in assists, this time recording 57 to go along with 13 digs.
Freshman outside hitter Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas/James Bowie) finished the match with 15 digs and 13 kills. Senior middle blocker Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif./El Molino) added 18 kills.
For Niagara, Sara Mancini finished with 22 digs. Raelean Rush had 20 digs and 10 kills, and Maurin Lawrence accumulated a team-high 15 kills.
Niagara drops to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes (3-7, 1-0), who are now winners of three straight, return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. against MAAC foe Canisius at the McCann Center.
