New Rochelle, N.Y. - The Marist College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision at Iona, as the Gaels pulled out a hard-fought 30-26, 25-30, 14-30, 30-28, 16-14 victory in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match on Wednesday.
Freshman setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) established a career high with 60 assists. Freshman outside hitter Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas/James Bowie) finished with 19 kills and 13 digs. Senior outside hitter Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) had a team-high 20 digs to go along with 14 kills and six blocks.
Senior middle blocker Sally Hanson (Guerneville, Calif./El Molino) tallied 19 kills and three blocks. Junior middle blocker Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz./Red Mountain) totaled 12 kills, seven digs and seven blocks.
For Iona, Megan Dailey finished with 20 digs and a team-high 19 kills. Shelby Erb had a team-high 28 digs.
The Red Foxes stormed to a 12-1 lead in the third game en route to their triumph. In the fifth game, there were 10 ties and six lead changes before the Gaels scored the final two points to break a 14-14 tie.
Iona improved to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes, who now stand at 3-9 overall and 1-2 in MAAC play, return to action at home against St. Peter's on Sunday.
