POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist Women's Soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Iona on Friday night in its MAAC opener. Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Nazarechuk (Ringwood, N.J.) made two saves for the Foxes, who fell to 2-7 overall on the season.

The two teams battled back and forth until Iona finally broke through at the 70:23 mark to score the only goal of the game. Laura McCroy headed in a cross from Liz Allan to send Iona to the win. Iona keeper Suzanne Baldissard got the win in net for the Gaels making two stops.

The game was played even throughout as Iona held a slim 10-9 advantage in shots, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks for the game were even at seven a piece and fouls in the match were 8-7 against Iona.

With the loss, Marist has dropped six straight contests since starting the season 2-1. At 2-7 overall and 0-1 in the MAAC Marist will be back in action on Sunday when it hosts Fairfield. Kick-off at Leonidoff Field in Poughkeepsie is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
